PILLAR has lots of great ideas on the slate but just too many to accomplish in a timely manner! We are seeking skilled volunteers to help with PILLAR projects. We have a terrific staff of volunteers in our office who have been very supportive. It is time to recruit some enthusiastic workers for the larger projects.  So, we are reaching out for your wise and wonderful assistance.  Below is a list with brief descriptions of the projects needing your help. You will notice that several items need immediate attention.

Curriculum Committee
Meets monthly to discuss topics and instructors for classes. This Committee has an Audit Subcommittee, a PILLAR Faculty Subcommittee and includes the Travel Committee. The Chairman is responsible to facilitate each meeting, take notes, follow-up with committee members regarding suggested topics/instructors/class proposals and work with the PILLAR Preview Committee towards production of the quarterly PILLAR Preview

PILLAR Preview Committee
This Committee produces the quarterly PILLAR Preview that lists the classes and tours/trips for the upcoming quarter. The committee consists of an Editor, Production Coordinator and several proofreaders. The Committee currently uses Colorado Technical Institute for it’s graphic needs. The Committee works with the various other Committees for material and articles to be included in the PILLAR Preview. This Committee meets throughout the quarter.

Classroom Hosts Committee
These volunteers are responsible to work with the instructor so the room is arranged as requested, introduce the instructor, and assist as needed during the class.  Hosts are also responsible to greet attendees, check-in the attendees on a special alphabetized list, set-up and clean up. In addition, Hosts are instructed to advertise and market future classes and other programs of the PILLAR Institute to those attending classes.

Administrative Assistants - Front Office Staff
A staff of volunteers has each chosen particular days of the week (Monday through Friday) to work a shift from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. They are responsible to answer the phone, accept and complete the necessary work regarding registrations, donations, and memberships, greet visitors, answer questions, make appropriate referrals, and other miscellaneous office tasks.

Project Volunteers
The PILLAR Institute has many data tracking systems in place with regard to membership, class attendance, mail list, contributors, instructors, etc. Individual volunteers have been assigned specific tasks to track this data on a weekly basis.

Special Projects
The PILLAR Institute has many volunteers who have taken on special projects including the Palisade Peach Fundraiser, Social Events, Y-PILLAR, Lifelong Learning in the Arts, and other Partnerships that require volunteer oversight.

Philosophical Café
The purpose of these groups is to provide a place for intelligent, stimulating discussion on a variety of thought-provoking topics. The goal is not necessarily to answer the questions asked, but to make people think, to cultivate their abilities to become more careful listeners and to enable them to better understand themselves. These are free community discussion groups. No reservations are needed.

PILLAR Players

The PILLAR Player’s Senior Reader’s Theatre offers a chance to perform some great drama and comedy without having to memorize lines or run around a stage. Be an actor and have fun while sitting on bar stools on a stage and reading a script as you communicate the full intellectual, emotional, and aesthetic content of the literature to an audience! This is a great outlet for aging theatre buffs or amateur talent.

Volunteer Council

A group of volunteers meet on a regular basis to review our current operating procedures and discuss issues which present themselves on a weekly basis which everyone should be aware of, have input in, and have definite directions on how to handle. We keep notes of the actions taken and send everyone on the Council an email of all of the details as well as keep a hard copy on the front desk for everyone to read.

Advertising Committee
This Committee will be assisting with our marketing and advertising of classes and trips/tours. Currently being formulated.

Membership Committee

This Committee has not been formed as of yet but work on expanding our membership and monitoring the various levels of membership.

Fundraising Committee

This committee has not been formed as of yet but will work on increasing the number of fundraisers we are involved with and the coordination of volunteers for each event.
